Stand With David: Overcoming Spinal COrd Injury
01/16/26
The Brent Oliver 541 Foundation advocated to help David Sample gain access to specialized care at Craig Hospital following his injury. In addition to advocacy, the foundation has been actively involved in the planning, coordination, and execution of major accessibility modifications to his home. The project involved remodeling a home originally built in 1903, including the construction of a fully ADA compliant bathroom and a complete redesign and rebuild of the front entrance to allow safe access and egress. The estimated value of donated labor, materials, equipment, and services associated with this project is approximately $130,000. The foundation played a central role in coordinating donated resources, advising on accessibility needs, and supporting fundraising efforts. The project is now nearing completion.

David, the oldest son of one of our local families, suffered a severe spinal cord injury during a trampoline accident. While attempting a flip, David landed on his neck and fractured his C6 vertebrae. He was immediately life-flighted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he began the critical early stages of care.
